About Quantum Paint: Premium Marine Coatings & Finishes

About Quantum Paint

A Faded Finish Sparks Innovation:

In 2007, Jon Boswell embarked on a project to restore a second-hand boat. Frustrated with the limited options for restoring the faded gelcoat finish, he spent nights and weekends experimenting with a solution. The result? Quantum, a revolutionary coating that brought the boat back to life.

From Curiosity to Company:

Word of Jon's amazing finish spread quickly, attracting attention and inquiries. In 2010, fueled by his girlfriend's (now wife's) $1500 investment and unwavering support, Jon launched Engineered Marine Coatings. He juggled his corporate career with visits to local boat yards, selling products, and attending shows during lunch hours, weekends, and even vacations.

Taking the Leap:

In 2014, acceptance into the prestigious Charleston Harbor Accelerator program marked a turning point. Despite a stable career and a growing family, Jon knew it was time to pursue his dream full-time. With unwavering support from his wife, he quit his job, even with a second mortgage on their home.

Balancing Growth and Family:

As the company flourished, Jon's travel demands increased. A video of his daughter's first bike ride he missed while attending a boat show sparked a new idea: take his family on the road! In 2018, they embarked on a daring adventure in a 40-foot RV, traveling across the country while growing the business as a family unit.

Challenges and Triumphs:

Their journey wasn't without its hiccups. A breakdown in Georgia left them questioning their decision, but they persevered. Over two years, they traveled from OBX to Key West, fostering deeper family bonds while exponentially growing the business.

Adapting to Change:

Just as they planned to continue their nomadic journey in 2020, the pandemic forced them to adapt. Despite the challenges, Engineered Marine Coatings persevered, and Jon's family-first approach continues to be a core value.

Engineered Marine Coatings remains a leader in the industry, driven by Jon's innovative spirit and the unwavering support of his family. Their story is a testament to the power of passion, perseverance, and family in building a successful business.

As Quantum has quickly grown, it became clear that this technology was fitting for more than just marine vessels including, but not limited to- vehicles, wooden items (tables, doors, benches, etc.), pilings, planes, tub and tile, concrete, and much more!
