In 2007, Jon Boswell embarked on a project to restore a second-hand boat. Frustrated by the few options to restore the faded gelcoat, he spent nights and weekends testing a solution. The result? Quantum, a revolutionary coating that brought the boat back to life.

From Curiosity to Company:

Jon's amazing finish spread quickly. It drew much attention and inquiries. In 2010, Jon launched Engineered Marine Coatings. His girlfriend, now his wife, invested $1500 and supported him. He juggled his corporate job with visits to local boat yards. He sold products and attended shows during lunch, weekends, and vacations.

Taking the Leap:

In 2014, acceptance into the Charleston Harbor Accelerator was a turning point. It is a prestigious program. Despite a stable career and a growing family, Jon knew it was time to pursue his dream full-time. With unwavering support from his wife, he quit his job, even with a second mortgage on their home.

Balancing Growth and Family:

As the company flourished, Jon's travel demands increased. A video of his daughter's first bike ride he missed while attending a boat show sparked a new idea: take his family on the road! In 2018, they took a bold trip in a 40-foot RV. They traveled the country while growing the business as a family.

Challenges and Triumphs:

Their journey wasn't without its hiccups. A breakdown in Georgia left them questioning their decision, but they persevered. In two years, they traveled from OBX to Key West. This deepened family bonds and rapidly grew the business.

Adapting to Change:

Just as they planned to continue their nomadic journey in 2020, the pandemic forced them to adapt. Despite the challenges, Engineered Marine Coatings persevered. Jon's family-first approach remains a core value.

Today:

Engineered Marine Coatings leads the industry. Jon's innovation and his family's support drive it. Their story is a testament to the power of passion, perseverance, and family in building a successful business.

As Quantum has quickly grown, it became clear that this tech was good for more than just marine vessels. It could also be used on vehicles, wooden items (tables, doors, benches, etc.), pilings, planes, tubs, tiles, concrete, and more!
