Quantum99 vs. Powder Coating
Share
The Test:
When it comes to protecting your boat's aluminum components, durability is key. We put Quantum99 and a traditional powder coating to the ultimate test to see which would stand up to the harsh marine environment. Two aluminum pieces from a leaning post were prepared. One was powder coated, while the other received a thin coat of Quantum45 Strontium Chromate primer followed by tow coats of Quantum99 in Pure White. Both samples were then struck with a hammer to create impact points.
On November 6, 2023 both samples were submerged in saltwater after full cure. Over the following 10 months we observed a stark difference in their performance.
The Results:
Powder coating: Despite its reputation for durability, the powder coating began to bubble and chip in areas that were not struck by the hammer. Areas away from the chip the paint started to bubble not even 3 months after submergence in January 2024.
Quantumm99: The Quantum99 coating showed remarkable resilience. It maintained its integrity, with only minor damage at the impact points.
Conclusion: The results of our experiment clearly demonstrate the superior durability of Quantum99 compared to traditional powder coating. Quantum99 offers exceptional protection against the corrosive effects of saltwater and harsh marine conditions.
